We used the downtime provided by Irene to plan our new scents for fall--the first will be released just after Labor Day!

To reward ourselves for all of our work, we hoped to go for brunch in the neighborhood but Irene had shut everything down. It was a freakishly rare phenomenon we're not sure we'll see again in our lifetimes: the East Village without brunch.

That didn't stop us having our Sunday Bloody Marys at home. We whizzed a single giant yellow tomato with Worcestershire, prepared horseradish, Tabasco, salt and brine from Rick's Picks awesome Smokra  (okra pickled in a spicy smoked paprika brine). We were out of lemons so we opted for a dash of sherry vinegar for a little extra tangy bite.

As we sipped them, we debated whether to call them Bloody Irenes in honor of the hurricane or Sunny Marys because of their rich yellow color. A coin toss gave us the answer, then we toasted to a hurricane well and safely passed.

Just cleaning off my camera and found this picture, taken from my friend's roof deck. May you all have good cocktails paired with an equally beautiful view this weekend. Happy Friday!

Just before my friend Alex of CocktailsDC married my dear friend Karyn, he leaned over and whispered in my ear, "I'm wearing Stewart & Claire lip balm right now." What an honor!

Unfortunately, my camera ate some of the photos from the wedding but here are a few shots I recovered.

Guests followed the groom about a half mile up this path to the top of a hill overlooking vineyards at CT Miller winery in western Pennsylvania for a Quaker-style ceremony.

Karyn's friend Kristin Bilonick of Pleasant Plains Workshop screen- printed a custom peacock design on tea towels and tote bags for favors.

Flowers picked on the farm looked gorgeous on the foldable tables. Dinner: Whole pig roasted on a spit and a Middle Eastern buffet, including stuffed grape leaves and hummus. Yum!

Karyn and Alex decorated the working barn with paper lanterns, where their brother-in-law worked as DJ.
